- The KAUST Symposium (October 22, 2007) – The symposium brought together some of the world’s top academics and researchers to discuss the The Role of the Research University in the 21st Century.
- The IT Summit (October 28, 2007) – The summit convened 16 of the world’s foremost experts in computer science, e-science, data intensive supercomputing, and Internet scale systems to examine the likely impact of information technologies on the global research enterprise in the next 10-15 years.
- The Global Research Partnership (GRP) Technical Symposium (May 27-28, 2008) – The symposium, titled "Frontiers and Opportunities in Science and Engineering: The Contribution of the Global Research Partnership to KAUST, Saudi Arabia, and the World" marked the first global gathering of KAUST GRP award recipients.
- Partners in Progress: The Special Academic Partnership Symposium (October 14-15, 2008) – marked the first global gathering and introduction of KAUST’s special academic partners and outlined each institution’s respective research contribution to KAUST.
